Sammy Watkins is the new receiver of the Green Bay Packers and thus the successor of Davante Adams. The former Kansas City Chief now drew a comparison between quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers – and has a very clear opinion.
Munich/Green Bay – It is nothing unusual when new players at a franchise praise their current colleagues to the skies.
Such was the case now with Sammy Watkins. The receiver played with Patrick Mahomes in the past and now with Aaron Rodgers. When he was asked about a comparison between the two quarterbacks before the preseason duel between the Chiefs and Packers, his answer still caused a stir.
Watkins: Rodgers “a different level” than Mahomes
In an interview on the Packers’ franchise-owned television station, Watkins said, “I think ‘Pat’ is unbelievably good. But Rodgers? He’s on a whole other level again.”
Watkins previously played with not only Mahomes, but also Lamar Jackson. Still, no one comes close to Rodgers, if he can be believed. “I’ve never seen anyone play like Aaron Rodgers. He puts others in position to succeed,” Watkins said in his eulogy.
What Watkins has yet to get the opportunity to play with Rodgers in a game. The Packers quarterback opted against preseason assignments, deeming them “pointless.” So all impressions come from practice.
In Week 1, the Packers get to take on the arch-rival Minnesota Vikings. Then Watkins gets a chance to experience Rodgers’ class under real conditions.
