For the Green Bay Packers, Jordan Love is taking over from Aaron Rodgers. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs is fond of the qualities of his new starting quarterback and doesn’t see much difference between the two playmakers’ skills.

For a decade and a half Aaron Rodgers was the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, with his trade to the New York Jets an era ended.

It is now the task of his successor Jordan Love to adequately fill the gap left behind.

If you believe the Packers’ officials, the playmaker is doing a more than decent job so far.

Both head coach Matt LaFleur and quarterback coach Tom Clements have recently praised him.

Green Bay Packers: Doubs says Love can “do the same thing” as Rodgers

Now Romeo Doubs, speaking to “Spectrum News 1”, has followed up and compared the two quarterbacks. The wide receiver, who had his rookie season under Rodgers in 2022, believes Love can fill Rodgers’ big shoes.

“I think Jordan can do it. I think Jordan is a really good quarterback. When you go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan, Aaron was a really great quarterback, but I think Jordan can do the exact same thing. So I don’t really see where the difference is,” Doubs said.

Part of the truth, though, is that Rodgers performed below his potential last year. In contrast, he excelled the two seasons before, winning the MVP title each time, but Doubs was still playing in college at the time.

Green Bay Packers: Doubs wants to “keep up the standard “

Doubs, who wants to take on more responsibility in the 2023 season, also spoke about his own role. In the 2022 season, the pass receiver recorded 42 catches for 425 receiving yards and three touchdowns, but also struggled with drops.

“I’m just working on being a complete receiver. Making sure I have good hands and that my game and routes are good. We just have to make sure we keep the standard up for the guys that look up to us,” Doubs said.

Packers on the decline? Doubs sees “an upward trend “

The 23-year-old gives abundantly little credence to the predictions of some NFL pundits that the Packers will have a difficult year. “I see an evolution, I see an upward trend. I don’t see the Packers going down,” Doubs made clear.

So there is no talk of tanking for the receiver: “This organisation is historic and it’s just winning. That’s all it is. When you hear the name Green Bay, it’s not about losing, it’s all about winning.”

For the Green Bay Packers, the regular season starts with a guest game at the Chicago Bears on 10 September, two days before the 2023 season opens with the opening game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions.
