Next to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, star left tackle David Bakhtiari is one of the most important players in the Green Bay Packers’ squad. However, the 30-year-old will miss the start of training camp once again. Head coach Matt LaFleur is watching the situation with great concern.
Green Bay/Munich – After three disappointing playoff defeats, the Green Bay Packers are again aiming for their fifth Super Bowl win overall this year.
Aaron Rodgers, the franchise’s most important player, returns to the field, but the departure of receiver Davante Adams means that the star quarterback has lost his favourite starting position.
And the Packers also have to accept a severe setback in the O-line: Left tackle David Bakhtiari, who already missed most of last season, is unlikely to start the opener of training camp.
David Bakthiari: Left tackle faces extended absence
As reported by various US media outlets, Aaron Rodgers’ main protector has been placed on the PUP list
This means that the veteran will most likely miss the start of the preparation, but the loss of the left tackle is not the end of the world for the time being.
The PUP list is often used to give injured players a few more days of rest before they return to training sessions.
David Bakhtiari: Injuries have been a worry for years
However, head coach Matt LaFleur is unlikely to be entirely unconcerned about what is happening to Bakhtiari: In December 2020, the 30-year-old tore his cruciate ligament and missed the first ten game days of the following season on the PUP list as a result.
Bakhtiari was only called up to the active roster during the last regular-season game, but the veteran was unable to play in the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur worries about David Bakhtiari
“We’ll have to watch it,” LaFleur told “Yahoo Sports” in June when asked about Bakhtiari’s possible comeback to start training camp.
“We fervently hope that he will be fit [for Training Camp], but that was our hope last year as well. We really like his work ethic and also his progress,” the Packers’ young head coach assured.
