Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur dampens expectations for Jordan Love

The departure of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets is basically just a formality. It also means that Jordan Love will now take over with the Green Bay Packers after three years on the bench. Head coach Matt LaFleur, however, wants to keep expectations low.

When it comes to quarterbacks, Green Bay Packers fans are spoiled.

After Brett Favre led the Wisconsin offense for years, he passed the baton to Aaron Rodgers. Both are multiple MVPs.

Now, in all likelihood, Jordan Love will take the reins. The shoes for the Utah State man are big. Accordingly, head coach Matt LaFleur wants to take the pressure of expectation off the young playmaker.

Love at Rodgers level? “We’d be foolish to assume that “

At the annual meeting of head coaches and owners in Phoenix, LaFleur commented on Love. “This is going to be a process. We’d be foolish to assume he’s going to go out there and play like Aaron Rodgers right away,” LaFleur said.

“Rodgers is not just a once-in-a-generation talent – it was a process with him, too. Even he didn’t immediately play at the level he eventually reached,” LaFleur takes a precautionary approach to his new playmaker.

“We have to lower our expectations. It will be a new role for Jordan as well, but we are looking forward to it,” LaFleur further revealed.

Instead, he takes the other parts of the offense to task: “He can only be as good as the teammates around him, that goes for all quarterbacks in the league. Everybody has to be at their best so Jordan can be at his best, too.”

Officially, Love has not yet been named the starter, but that is only a matter of time, depending on the trade of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, which is not yet in the bag.
