The Green Bay Packers congratulate outside linebacker Jonathan Garvin on his birthday via Twitter. A few hours later, head coach Matt LaFleur announces that he’s leaving the team.
Jonathan Garvin certainly had a different idea of what his birthday would be like.
On Friday morning, the Green Bay Packers’ Twitter account wished the outside linebacker a happy birthday, posting a picture of the NFL defender and writing, “Smile, it’s your birthday!”

Just three hours after that, head coach Matt LaFleur then announced Garvin’s retirement from the Packers at a press conference, “ESPN” reported. Later, the Packers account deleted the birthday tweet.
In the social networks, many fans reacted with incomprehension to the action. Whether it was really necessary to sack him on his birthday, was the basic tenor.
Garvin joined the Packers as a seventh-round pick in 2020 and has played in 38 games since, though he was on the field as a starter in only one of them. In 2021, he had his strongest season to date with 1.5 sacks and 19 tackles.
