Will FC Bayern München pay Aaron Rodgers and Co. a visit in the summer? The Green Bay Packers are reportedly hosting a test kick-off between the record champions and Manchester City.
Munich – Will FC Bayern Munich be taking a trip to the USA this summer? The German record champions are reportedly paying a visit to the Green Bay Packers – to play a test match at the legendary Lambeau Field.
The opponents: English champions Manchester City. This was reported by the Green Bay Press-Gazette with reference to various sources. According to the report, the game will take place shortly before the start of the Packers’ training camp.
Aaron Rodgers: Manchester City fan
Rodgers will surely be happy about a visit from Europe’s top teams, he had outed himself as a fan of City and coach Pep Guardiola in the past.
An exact date for the camp has not yet been set, but it is likely to take place from mid to late July. The Bundesliga kicks off the new season on the weekend of August 5 to 7.
FC Bayern would, however, already be challenged before then: Either on 30 July as champions in the Supercup against the Cup winners, or in the first DFB Cup round, which takes place on the same weekend.
On Monday, the Packers had declared they would host a big event without Packers participation, but did not confirm the Bayern game yet. They said they would only make the whole thing official when everything was actually in the bag.
Curious: The dimensions of Lambeau Field are actually a bit too small for a football match.
Substitute for game in London
For the Packers, the event is a replacement for the home game they will have to forgo because of the game in London as part of the International Series.
The Packers play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the autumn
