Green Bay Packers: Head coach Matt LaFleur praises Jordan Love’s progress.

Jordan Love is expected to take over Aaron Rodgers’ legacy with the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Matt LaFleur credits his new regular quarterback for progressing well

Head coach Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers has full confidence in new regular quarterback Jordan Love to take on the difficult legacy of Aaron Rodgers.

“I watched him last year. I think Jordan has made great strides,” LeFleur said in a media roundtable. A big part of that, he said, is Tom Clements, who is the Packers’ quarterbacks coach.

“I think a lot of that is due to Tom, who knows how to coach these guys. He knows how to train them, and he’s very, very consistent. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He’s just no-nonsense,” said LaFleur, who is entering his fifth season as head coach at Wisconsin.

Jordan Love benefits from quarterbacks coach

Clements had joined the Packers back in 2006 and worked his way up through his role as quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. He left the franchise in 2017, but returned last year.

“I asked Jordan after the season what he thought of him and he said he loved Tom and thought he did a heck of a job helping him develop over the course of the year,” LaFleur said. “To me, it was a no-brainer. It was just a matter of whether Tom wanted to come back or not, and I’m glad he wanted to be here, and we’re lucky to have him.”

Love was drafted by the Packers in the first round back in 2020. That pick had caused irritation for Rodgers, and it was the beginning of the end for the four-time MVP in Green Bay. After last season, he had initially considered ending his career before eventually going to the New York Jets via trade.
