The story of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers is in the past. Does that mean there will be a rebuild with the Packers? No, at least if general manager Brian Gutekunst has his way. However, his team captain David Bakhtiari disagrees.
The NFL’s longest quarterback saga has finally come to an end. Actually since spring 2020, Aaron Rodgers has been flirting with either ending his career or leaving the team. Now he finally joined the New York Jets.
This creates a vacuum at the Packers for now. However, the Packers are now also rid of their best earner. Everything speaks for a Rebuild.
Rebuild? Not in Green Bay
However, general manager Brian Gutekunst is now putting a stop to that. “We don’t see the situation as a ‘rebuild,'” Gutekunst said, according to “ESPN.”
“No matter who plays, no matter what, the objective remains the same. Just because we parted ways with our quarterback doesn’t mean anything different, does it?” the 49-year-old explained.
He sees parallels with the situation in 2008, when Brett Favre was also traded to the Jets and Rodgers took over. “It’s the same situation as then. “
Bakhtiari disagrees, “No matter how you spin it “
Different view from David Bakhtiari, team captain and longtime Aaron Rodgers left tackle. “No matter how you slice it, the Packers are doing a rebuild,” he said weeks ago on the “Bussin With The Boys” podcast.
Now, in an interview with nfl.com, he follows up with, “We’re parting ways with a future Hall of Fame quarterback. Are we going to say this isn’t a rebuild? It is one and that’s totally fine,” the offensive lineman pleaded.
Never the less, the 31-year-old is looking forward to the upcoming season. “Are we going to be good? I don’t know. Are we going to be bad? I don’t know either. But that’s the beauty of it,” Bakhtiari explained.
The Packers will in all likelihood start Jordan Love, who has just one start to show for his career.
