The Green Bay Packers were looking for a new defensive coordinator. A fan saw his chance and applied, CEO Mark Murphy responded personally
When you don’t have a chance, you should take it.
For many just a wise saying, for Bill Port a mantra.
The longtime Green Bay Packers fan responded to the vacancy at his favorite team’s defensive coordinator position.
According to Bleacher Report and the Green Bay Press-Gazette, he officially applied for the job.
The Packers fired previous DC Joe Barry, who recently signed with the Miami Dolphins as linebackers coach.
Packers CEO with small Bears diss
This wasn’t the first time Port tried to get a job with the Cheeseheads, by the way. Before Matt LaFleur became head coach, the fan also sent out an application at the time.
Unlike back then, this time he even received a reply from Packers CEO Mark Murphy, in which he included a little dig:
“Bill, thanks for your application. While we are impressed with your fantasy football experience, I regret to inform you that we have decided to go in a different direction. I understand the Chicago Bears are still looking for personnel, and I think you would be the perfect fit for them. Thanks again. Sincerely, Mark. “
Packers fan Bill Port gave applying for the defensive coordinator job a shot. He didn’t get it, but it turned out better than expected. https://t.co/aDauGE3kZp

“I wasn’t expecting an answer,” Port smirked, stating that his application said he won multiple fantasy football leagues and had high school experience.
Perhaps it was the fact that Port “likes to have weekends off” that ultimately led the Packers to choose Jeff Hafley as their new defensive coordinator, who previously worked at Boston College.
