Former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness has so far failed to live up to high expectations. He could now be facing a position change with the Green Bay Packers.
With the 13th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers secured the services of pass rusher Lukas Van Ness. However, the 23-year-old has only been able to make a splash here and there so far.
In two seasons, he has recorded seven sacks and 65 tackles, despite not lacking playing time. At the same time, he has struggled in run defense.
Head coach Matt LaFleur wants to get more out of his edge rusher and is therefore currently considering a position change.
Packers: Van Ness as defensive tackle?
“I’m thinking a lot about where I want to use him, he’s definitely an option at defensive tackle,” LaFleur said in a press conference.
During the first training sessions, Van Ness completed several exercises with the defensive tackles.
His athleticism and powerful build could allow him to flourish in pass rush situations in particular.
