Green Bay Packers deliver shutout victory against New Orleans Saints

In a one-sided Monday Night Game from the first minute, the Green Bay Packers won 34-0 against the New Orleans Saints and secured their place in the playoffs.

It was the first time this season that a team was held to zero points until the last game in Week 16 of the NFL.

The New Orleans Saints lost 0-34 to the Green Bay Packers in the Monday Night Football game at Lambeau Field. While the Saints’ hopes of making the playoffs have been dashed, the Packers, as the third-place team in the NFC North, have secured a place in the postseason.

Quarterback Jordan Love didn’t even have to shine. 182 passing yards, one touchdown and an 88.7 passer rating don’t sound outstanding, but the second-highest paid playmaker in the league didn’t have to be.

Rather, it was the running backs who excelled: Josh Jacobs (69 yards), Emanuel Wilson (52 yards) and Chris Brooks (23 yards) all scored a touchdown. Overall, head coach Matt LaFleur was pleased with 188 rushing yards. The only receiving touchdown went to Dontayvion Wicks.

“When a lot of guys contribute to the win, it’s always cool. That’s what characterizes a good team,” LaFleur said after the game. The only downer is Christian Watson’s injury, which occurred in the final minutes of the game. ‘We’ll test his knee tomorrow,’ the head coach announced.

It was clear that it would be difficult without the injured Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara, but zero points are a bitter disappointment even under these circumstances.

Backup quarterback Spencer Rattler completed just half of his 30 passes for 153 yards, throwing one interception and losing a fumble. The running game’s statistics are even more depressing: in 15 attempts, the Saints’ three remaining ball carriers only ran for 39 yards.

Quarterback Rattler was the leading rusher with 28 yards – rarely a good sign for an offense.

In week 17, the Saints will face the Las Vegas Raiders at home, while the Packers will travel to the Minnesota Vikings.
