The Green Bay Packers are finally ending the Aaron Rodgers chapter. The quarterback’s locker will be passed directly to a rookie fifth-round pick, against a common tradition

The Green Bay Packers apparently want to put the Aaron Rodgers issue to rest for good as early as possible and have given the superstar’s longtime locker to rookie Sean Clifford.

Actually, it is not uncommon for franchises in the NFL to keep the lockers of deserving players free for a year after their departure.

Green Bay, however, appears to want to make a hard cut after 18 years to finally drive Rodgers’ aura out of the locker room for the new start after he was traded to the New York Jets in April.

Love likely new starter in Green Bay

Clifford was selected by the Packers in the fifth round of this year’s draft.

The former Pennsylvania State University quarterback will likely compete for the backup job next season behind Jordan Love, who in turn was selected by Green Bay in the first round in 2020 to replace the then 36-year-old Rodgers.

The decision to go with Love was already seen as the beginning of the end for Rodgers with the Packers, who responded to the 24-year-old’s pick with two straight MVP awards after weaker performances in previous years, proving his critics wrong.
