The Washington Commanders are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback. Now the general manager is making it clear what the team is doing to finally find him.
Munich – The situation at quarterback for the Washington Commanders is anything but simple.
General manager Martin Mayhew has now made it clear that the team is doing everything it can to sign an excellent playmaker.
“We feel we have effectively canvassed the whole league,” he said while speaking to reporters. “We’ve talked to every team that has a quarterback that might be available.” Mayhew said the team would have done the same thing a year ago.
“If you don’t have a franchise quarterback, you have to make an urgent effort to find one every year,” Mayhew continued.

A new playmaker doesn’t necessarily have to be brought in via trade, however. “There’s a quality quarterback class this year,” he said on the sidelines of the Scouting Combine nearly two months before the draft.
“At this point, I think there could be some separation here at the Combine. We may see some of that. But we are also clear about our options for next year. We’re trying to address the issue now, if possible. And that’s where our focus is.”
Early last season, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a serious injury and his return is currently unclear. Taylor Heinicke was also not as convincing as he should have been.
