Equanimeous St. Brown: Decision on Packers future probably imminent

German-American NFL player Equanimeous St. Brown was on the Green Bay Packers’ matchday squad for the third time against the Cincinnati Bengals. To use the wide receiver a fourth time, they would have to sign him permanently for the 2021 season.

Munich – Being a practice squad player in the NFL is often a rollercoaster ride. While the weekend is spent partying with superstars in the booth, Monday is the return to the second guard.

In order to protect the players on the practice squad from exploitation, NFL teams are only allowed to call them up to the active squad twice per season. If they are to be used more often, they have to be permanently signed by the teams and would then also earn significantly more money than before.

Because of the Corona pandemic, German-American wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown has already been drafted three times into the first team by the Green Bay Packers. Now a decision on his long-term future could be made soon.

Two options for EQ St. Brown

With the Packers having used up both regular nominations on “EQ” after his outing against the Cincinnati Bengals, there are only two options for the 25-year-old as he looks to make appearances in Green Bay for the rest of the season.

Either he lingers on the Practice Squad and is only called up to the squad if another player has to sit out due to Corona protocol. If the Packers want to see him on the field under other circumstances, they would have to sign him permanently to the 53-man roster.

From an athletic standpoint, St. Brown hasn’t been much of a factor for the Packers this season. Against the Bengals, he was on the field for 19 percent of the offensive snaps, but failed to record a target from superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. EQ also had just one reception in the other two games this season.

In his entire NFL career, St. Brown has 29 catches for 445 receiving yards and one touchdown.
