Detroit Lions: Amon-Ra. St. Brown apparently wants a new role

Amon-Ra. St. Brown has fully impressed in his first two NFL seasons and apparently wants an even more important part in the Detroit Lions’ offense.

German-American wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the Detroit Lions’ great hopefuls. Last season he caught passes for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. For his third NFL season, the 23-year-old apparently wants an even bigger role in the Lions’ system.

As the Detroit Free Press reports, St. Brown intends to become even more of a deep threat in 2023. In other words, he wants even more deep passes.

Receivers coach praises St. Brown

Antwaan Randle El, the Lions’ receivers coach, is promising the pass receiver will do just that. “He can get in and out of cuts easily, he wouldn’t have to do a lot of other things at all because he can just get loose real quick,” the coach said.

“So I just want him to run those smooth routes. That’s what he did in the OTAs and it was a good progression for him. He doesn’t have to make any extra moves at all, he just has to run the routes. “

St. Brown averaged 10.6 yards per catch last season. True, there are faster pass receivers than St. Brown, who runs the 40 yards in 4.61 seconds. However, he is a very good route runner and catches balls even in difficult situations, for example, acts very decisively in the air and often prevails against the cornerbacks.

All these are good prerequisites to be allowed to run the deep routes.
