In the 2022 NFL Draft, pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was drafted number two by the Detroit Lions. Now he’s revealed that he was even glad he wasn’t picked number one by the Jacksonville Jaguars
For a long time, Heisman Trophy finalist Aidan Hutchinson was the favourite to be the first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but in the end he was “only” picked second behind Travon Walker.
Instead of $37.4 million, which the No. 1 pick collects, he “only” gets $35.7 million. But that didn’t really bother Hutchinson – on the contrary.
“Throughout the draft process, I wanted them to take me. I’m very happy and grateful to be here. Everything went the way I thought it would,” Hutchinson said on the sidelines of a “joint practice” with the Jaguars.
Hutchinson: Went to school near Lions facility
When you look at Hutchinson’s background, these statements are not surprising. Hutchinson was born and raised in Michigan. Allen Park – near the Lions facility – is where the pass rusher went to school, for example. Also in Michigan, he went to college and played for the Wolverines.
At the latest, when Mama Hutchinson posted a child’s photo in Lions merchandise, it was almost bound to happen. Hutchinson has set his sights high for his second season: He wants to reach the playoffs with the Lions. Personally, he is aiming for at least ten quarterback sacks.
