DeAndre Hopkins still not officially released by Arizona Cardinals

Star receiver DeAndre Hopkins was released by the Arizona Cardinals last week – in theory! Because the roster move still isn’t official.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday afternoon that they have released star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The roster move didn’t officially take place that day, however.

It followed a no-transaction weekend and a holiday on Monday (Memorial Day). So the release of DeAndre Hopkins is still not official. The receiver could continue to be traded should a team surprisingly find one after all.

High “Dead Cap” for 2023 season

If not, the dismissal will probably go through officially on Tuesday at 4pm Eastern time (10pm German time). At that time, DeAndre Hopkins is a free agent and can sign with any NFL team.

By releasing him before 5 June, the Arizona Cardinals’ cap space for the 2023 season will be burdened with 22.6 million US dollars. In return, the franchise will have more room for player salaries in 2024.
