The Dallas Cowboys have to go to the San Francisco 49ers next. In preparation for the opponent, an ex-Niner is expected to help: Quarterback Trey Lance.
The Trey Lance personnel case made big waves last offseason. After the former super talent lost the battle for the starting quarterback position with the San Francisco 49ers to Brock Purdy and even had to line up behind Sam Darnold, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
He has not yet been used there either, but he could now become important for the Cowboys in a completely different way. Because the next opponent of Dallas is his former team, the 49ers.
Schottenheimer hints: “Trey knows them well “
Trey Lance spent three full training camps with the 49ers, each under head coach Kyle Shanahan. “Trey knows them well and knows what they’re doing,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said. At training camp before the 2022 season, Lance was even given the plays for the starters.
However, the son of legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer didn’t want to put too much stock in his third-string quarterback’s role. “He knows them well. But I know them well from my time in Seattle, too. And they know the Cowboys well, too,” he added.
“The 49ers do things so well that some of the time you can’t stop them. Whether you know what they’re doing or not. “
“Besides,” he added, “it doesn’t have to mean anything even if we knew exactly what they were doing,” Schottenheimer said.
