Dallas Cowboys: Legend Terrell Owens is ‘ready’ for a comeback

The Dallas Cowboys are struggling with injuries in the receiver corps. For Terrell Owens, the moment to offer himself for a comeback

Munich – Will there be a sensational comeback in the NFL? Legend Terrell Owens would be ready for it. That’s exactly what the former wide receiver tweeted – and fuelled the speculation.

The background is a user’s tweet that the Dallas Cowboys need a veteran after James Washington’s injury and that team owner Jerry Jones should call ex-Cowboy Owens.

Waiting for Michael Gallup

Washington is expected to be out at least six weeks and could be out up to ten weeks after breaking his foot. He had been in contention with Jalen Tolbert for the spot as second receiver behind number one CeeDee Lamb, as Michael Gallup remains a question mark after tearing his cruciate ligament. Most recently, coach Mike McCarthy had stated that Gallup was in the final quarter of his comeback plan.

This means that an experienced receiver for the next few weeks should indeed be on the Cowboys’ agenda. Which, as mentioned, put Owens on the map.

“I’m ready,” he wrote.

The “Problem”: Owens is 48 years old and last played in the NFL in 2010. His total of 15,934 receiving yards was surpassed only by Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald. Owens was selected to the First Team All-Pro five times and was a six-time Pro Bowler. In 2018, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

Good to go, however, the legend, who played in Dallas from 2006 to 2008, actually still is. He participated in the second season of the “Fan Controlled Football League” and finished with 124 yards and three touchdowns.

Flirt with NFL comeback not new

His flirtation with returning to the NFL isn’t new, he already put himself in the conversation a few weeks ago, back when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs. Owens is convinced he can still contribute to a team. Whether the Cowboys will actually take him up on his offer, however, seems (unfortunately) questionable.
