A lawsuit has been filed against Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, for defamation. Plaintiff Alexandra Davis claims to be the illegitimate daughter of the 80-year-old and that her reputation has been tarnished by false statements made by the 80-year-old.
There’s big trouble coming for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
As Don Van Natta Jr. of “ESPN” reports, a defamation lawsuit has been filed against the 80-year-old and two of his closest associates.
Plaintiff Alexandra Davis claims to be Jones’ illegitimate daughter and alleges that the defendants spread lies and misinformation that portrayed her as a ”rip-off artist” and ”blackmail artist.”
According to the complaint, the other two individuals listed as defendants are Donald T. Jack Jr, Jones’ longtime friend and Arkansas attorney, and Jim Wilkinson, Jones’ outside communications consultant.
Jerry Jones allegedly used false statements to damage reputation
Already last year, the 26-year-old filed a lawsuit against Jones, claiming Jones paid her $375,000 and set up two trust funds to hide the fact that she was his daughter. In the new lawsuit, Davis claims Jones publicly made “false statements and allegations” intended to smear her name.
“Not once did Defendant Jones or any of his representatives deny that Plaintiff is Defendant Jones’ daughter,” write Davis’ lawyers, Jay K. Gray and Andrew A. Bergman, in their statement of claim.
“Instead, Defendant Jones chose to label his own daughter a ‘blackmailer’ merely to make his own public image less reprehensible by attempting to discredit Plaintiff’s reputation and character in the public eye,” it reads.
Jerry Jones ordered by court to undergo paternity test
Davis asked in her original 2022 lawsuit to be recognised by the court as Jones’ daughter and to be released from the confidentiality agreement her mother had agreed to when she was an infant.
The court in charge ordered Jones to take a paternity test, but this has not yet happened.
A spokesman for Jones told “ESPN” last year that plaintiffs’ lawyer Bergman had told Jones’ legal representative Levi G. McCathern II that it would cost “monetary payments in the spades of Zeke or Dak ” to withdraw Davis’ suit.
Bergman, however, denied ever asking for money to settle the suit.
