Running back Ezekiel Elliott has been the starter for the Dallas Cowboys since 2016. Until Week 13 this season. Jerry Jones explains the reasons and appeases.
Munich – 97 games for the Dallas Cowboys, 97 times starter: Ezekiel Elliott is a face of the Texans, and a performer. Against the Indianapolis Colts, however, Tony Pollard was suddenly the starter.
And that actually had reasons, which Cowboys owner Jerry Jones explained after the 54:19 win. Because Elliott was out of line.
A little bit, at least.
Ezekiel Elliott: tardiness and a cell phone
“There was a little problem he had with his coach and discipline issues,” Jones explained. “Tardiness at a meeting or a phone being switched off, but I don’t impose that penalty. I would be much more lenient,” Jones said.
Pollard finished with 91 yards and two touchdowns. Elliott, possibly with some anger in his gut, in his first game in nearly seven years in Dallas off the bench rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Given past issues with Elliott’s off-field behavior, Jones hastened to point out that the star running back’s offenses at the time were something bigger.
Jerry Jones: “One little thing “
Elliott allegedly became violent towards his then-girlfriend three times in 2016 and was suspended for six games in November 2017 after much negotiation.
“It’s a little thing you have with meetings and phones and things like that,” Jones added. “It wasn’t a demotion. It was more to do with the phone going off at the wrong time. Nothing of significance. That’s definitely something to mention. No behavioural issues. “
