Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is earning criticism for his Halloween costume. The 80-year-old made a joke alluding to blind people on the spooky night.

Munich/Dallas – Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faces harsh criticism after his Halloween appearance. But what happened?

The 80-year-old had dressed up as an NFL referee on the spooky night and also held a blind man’s stick in his hand to symbolise what he is probably most afraid of at the moment: Bad calls by the refs.

However, his choice of outfit is now falling flat on its face, as the National Federation of the Blind has since spoken out, criticising the costume as alluding to the fact that blind people are, according to prejudice, incompetent.

“When someone perpetuates such a stereotype, it’s harmful,” the organisation’s spokesperson Chris Danielsen told TMZ Sport. He said it was especially tragic since 70 percent of blind Americans are unemployed.

Danielsen went on to say that there were a lot of blind people who would like to be more involved with sport. Actions such as Jones’, however, would negatively affect these plans.

The press secretary, however, qualified the 80-year-old’s faux pas as “unfortunate” but concluded with a thought: “He has blind fans of his own at the Cowboys’ stadium. When they attend the games, they put on headphones and listen to the fan radio. That might be something for him to think about.”

There are no other consequences to the mishap of the long-time owner of “America’s Team”. According to the report, the NFL refrained from punishing him.
