Dallas Cowboys at Washington Football Team: Coaches’ spat before NFC East clash

With a win against the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Football Team could suddenly make the NFC East exciting again. Ahead of the game, the two coaches engage in a little verbal skirmish.

Munich – For a long time, it looked like the Dallas Cowboys would sweep the NFC East.

But after a few annoying losses of the “Boys” the rest of the division caught up a bit in the last weeks. The Washington football team in particular is within striking distance of Dallas (8-4) with six wins and six losses.

Because both teams meet twice more in the coming weeks, the Cowboys are by no means certain to win the division.

Accordingly, the duel between the two rivals on Sunday is explosive – including verbal exchanges in the run-up.

Dallas Cowboys optimistic: “We will win”

With a win on Sunday, the Cowboys could put a bit of an exclamation mark on their record. Head coach Mike McCarthy is therefore confident: “We will win this game. I firmly believe we will,” said the 58-year-old, who has been absent recently due to a Corona infection.

“Should I say something different? I expect to win in every game, that’s what sport is all about,” the coach explained his optimism. “They work hard, we work hard. Nevertheless, we will go to Washington and win the game,” he concluded.

He seems to be falling on open ears with his team: “Of course not,” quarterback Dak Prescott replied when asked if he had a problem with his coach’s statements. “It doesn’t put us in a worse position. He’s just voicing what everyone is thinking anyway. Now we have to back up the words. That’s what coaches are for, they set the tone,” Prescott said.

In his career, Prescott stands at seven wins and only one loss against the football team. In Washington, however, they seem to think little of the fighting words from Dallas.

WFT coach Rivera calm: “Big mistake “

“To me, it’s a big mistake,” Washington coach Ron Rivera countered his colleague’s statements, “He wants to get in our head, of course, but like I said to my players: It’s not important for us. We’re just focused on Sunday’s game,” the 59-year-old said.

In addition, McCarthy would make himself vulnerable with his statements: “He is trying to convince his own team. He has drawn attention to himself now. It’s not about what the players are doing anymore, he’s being judged by his words,” Rivera continued.

Defensive end Jonathan Allen was also unimpressed at the press conference: “The only things that are certain are called death and taxes”.

So Sunday will see a rematch of one of the NFL’s greatest rivalries. If the teams can match their words with action on the field, it should be a heated affair at Washington’s FedExField.
