After the close 17:23 loss of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Wild Card Game against the San Francisco 49ers, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott let himself get carried away with a smug comment about the referees directly after the game – this now has consequences.
Munich/Dallas – It was a nasty scene at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium after the Texans’ narrow 17-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Wild Card Game. Disappointed Cowboys fans threw trash from the stands at the referees, who they said were to blame for Dak Prescott and Co. losing – yet the officials only acted within the rules in the game’s curious final scene.
However, the frustrated Cowboys quarterback made the following comment directly after the game in the direction of the fans and the referees: “Kudos to them! The fans thought the same way we did. I think that’s why the referees left so quickly. Everyone is upset with the way this thing went down.” These sentences now have consequences.
Fine for Prescott
The NFL has now fined Prescott $25,000 for his statements. Earlier, the signal caller had apologised via Twitter for his comments, making it clear that the statements were “a mistake on my part and I apologise for that. “
I deeply regret the comments I made regarding the officials after the game on Sunday.
I was caught up in the emotion of a disappointing loss and my words were uncalled for and unfair.

I hold the NFL Officials in the highest regard and have always respected their professionalism and the difficulty of their jobs.
The safety of everyone who attends a game or participates on the field of a sporting event is a very serious matter.

That was a mistake on my behalf, and I am sorry.

Dallas Cowboys vice-executive president Stephen Jones also commented on Prescott’s behavior and his own fans as “unfortunate” and that such things “have no place with us.”
