Chicago Bears: Justin Fields unfollows his team on social media – sign of farewell?

Has quarterback Justin Fields called it quits with the Chicago Bears? His behavior on social media at least suggests so

Justin Fields no longer seems to feel connected to the Chicago Bears. The quarterback no longer follows his team on Instagram. This is often the first sign that a player no longer sees his future with the respective team.

The background to this could be that the Bears are looking at a new quarterback. The franchise holds the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft through a trade with the Carolina Panthers and could, for example, pick USC star Caleb Williams to lead their offense. At position nine, it’s the Bears’ turn again

Fields was the number 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft

Fields was picked eleventh overall in the 2021 NFL Draft and was considered a potential franchise quarterback. He has fallen short of expectations in his three seasons so far, but at least showed positive development in 2023. In 13 games (5 wins), he threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and also ran into the end zone four times himself.

Fields is now looking ahead to the final season of his rookie contract in 2024. If the Bears do indeed use their No. 1 pick on a new quarterback, Fields’ future could lie in the backup role or with another team.

The fact that he no longer follows the Bears on Instagram suggests the latter.
