After the drama: The Chicago Bears are officially filing a complaint with the NFL after their bitter defeat against the Green Bay Packers. It’s about the blocked field goal.
The dramatic finale in the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers (19:20) on Sunday will have repercussions.
As Matt Eberflus, head coach of the Bears, announced, Chicago will file a complaint with the NFL about the decision around the blocked field goal in the final sequence of the game.
The Bears had the victory in their sights with kicker Cairo Santos, but his attempt from 46 yards with the clock running out was blocked by Packers player Karl Brooks. From Eberflus’ point of view, this was a violation of the rules.
“We will submit this [to the league],“ he said. Specifically, Eberflus meant that there was direct contact between the Packers and Bears long snapper Scott Daly. However, this is prohibited by NFL rules.
”They were on our long snapper, so we’ll file a complaint and see what the league says,” said the 54-year-old. However, a possible assessment by the NFL no longer has any impact on the result.
For the Bears, it was their 11th straight loss to Green Bay; the last time Chicago was able to win against the NFC North rival was in 2018. After the fourth consecutive loss, the air is also gradually getting thinner for Ebeflus.
