Sam Darnold remains calm. This despite the fact that the Carolina Panthers are actively looking for a replacement for the former first-round pick. He now stated in a podcast that he is certain he will continue to play in the NFL.
Munich – The upcoming season is a do-or-die season for Sam Darnold. Although the Carolina Panthers are looking for a new quarterback, the 24-year-old remains calm and confident.
On Titans O-lineman Taylor Lewan’s “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast, Darnold explained, “It is what it is. In the end, it’s out of my hands, I know that. I’m confident enough that I can say I’m a good quarterback in this league. I’ve proven that. And if something happens, there’s going to be a team that wants me.”
In the upcoming draft, the Panthers own the sixth pick. In recent days and weeks, the franchise has been heavily involved with Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh), Malik Willis (Liberty) and Matt Corral (Mississippi). If the Panthers decide to go with a quarterback, Darnold’s days with the Panthers could be numbered. In addition, the franchise had long been interested in Deshaun Watson before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Sam Darnold: Career at crossroads?
The 24-year-old Darnold joined the Panthers via trade before last season after spending the first three seasons of his NFL career with the New York Jets. He won the first three games with his team, but left the field as a winner only one other time in the next eight games. Darnold missed six games with an injury.
As of now, he would only be concerned with new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s playbook, Darnold said. Everything else would be sorted out in the coming weeks and months. “It doesn’t matter who makes the decision in the end. The GM. The coach. We’ll see what they have to say and go from there,” said the third pick of the 2018 draft.
