Cam Newton cashes in with the Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are cashing in on the returnee. As “ESPN” reports, Cam Newton will get up to ten million dollars for the rest of the season. $4.5 million of that is guaranteed.

Munich – Cam Newton returns to the Carolina Panthers. Back to his roots, that is. Back to the team where he grew up and celebrated his great successes in the NFL.

A bit of campfire romance – which Newton is paying for well. Because the Carolina Panthers are digging deep into their pockets for their “prodigal son” and plenty of quarterback experience for the squad.

As Adam Schefter of “ESPN” reports, the 32-year-old will get up to ten million dollars for the rest of the year, which is at least the second half of the Regular Season plus possible playoff games. According to the report, 4.5 million dollars of that is guaranteed. In addition, there is a roster bonus of 1.5 million dollars. Not a bad deal.

Success-based contracts with the Patriots

Newton had been released by the Panthers in March 2020 and then joined the New England Patriots in the summer. By comparison, he had signed an extremely performance-based contract there.

The basic salary was only 1.05 million dollars, but with bonuses up to 7.5 million dollars would have been possible. In the end, according to media reports, it was just under four million dollars after a poor season without play-off participation.

For 2021, Newton again signed a performance-based contract with the Patriots that guaranteed him 3.5 million dollars – a signing bonus of two and a salary of 1.5 million dollars. The contract reportedly would have been worth up to $14 million with various bonuses.

Before the cut, however, the Foxborough quarterback was released.
