The Arizona Cardinals are mourning the loss of their former head coach Vince Tobin, who passed away on Monday at the age of 79. The US American had taken over the franchise in 1996 and managed the team to its first playoff win in 51 seasons in 1998. He was sacked in 2000.
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill offered his condolences in a statement, remembering the ex-coach. “As head coach of the Cardinals, his steady leadership was a constant and a big part of the success the team had during his tenure. His football legacy is highlighted by the exciting 1998 season, the return to the postseason and the surprising playoff win over Dallas. He will also be remembered for his instrumental role in key decisions like drafting Jake Plummer and Pat Tillman.”
Tobin was also a role model off the field: “In addition, he was a consummate family man and always in a class of his own, positively influencing everyone he met,” Bidwill further recalled.
