Running Back Todd Gurley passes his medicine check with the Atlanta Falcons after a two month delay. At least for now he dispels any doubts about the condition of his knee.
Two months after his agreement with the Atlanta Falcons on a one-year contract for $5.5 million, Running Back Todd Gurley has now also had his medicine check with his new team after a delay caused by the corona virus pandemic.
According to “ESPN”, the three-time Pro Bowler passed the due tests on Monday and has cleared up concerns about the condition of his knee, at least for now.
Meanwhile, the Falcons can urgently need reinforcements in the offensive backfield.
Falcons have high hopes for Gurley
The Falcons signed Gurley in the hope that he would breathe much-needed life into a running game that had only finished 30th in the league last season. Two-time pro bowler Devonta Freeman had previously been sacked, further increasing the need for the running backs.
General Manager Thomas Dimitroff was confident in advance that Gurley would pass his investigation.
However, a certain scepticism remained, for example with Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter: “His performance speaks for itself. We just have to see how healthy he is and how consistently he can do it. He can still do it. It only depends on how often he can do it.”
In college, Gurley had badly injured his knee. Last season, rumors grew that the joint was now very worn and that his career would end sooner rather than later.
After two seasons with over 1250 rushing yards each, the 25-year-old was able to play in 15 of 16 matches of the Regular Season last season, but his workload on the court decreased significantly. After a four-year contract extension and $60 million in 2018, the Los Angeles Rams released him this spring.
Gurley himself was unimpressed by this and dispelled doubts about his knee even before he signed: “I didn’t tear my cruciate ligament last year. That was six years ago. So I was able to stabilize it and just keep going every year.”
Matt Ryan raves about a new player
Quarterback Matt Ryan recently checked the health of his new teammate personally and held a workout with him in California. Afterwards he was quite impressed.
“I’ve been able to work with Todd and he’s fantastic,” Ryan told ESPN, “He’s a really, really good guy. A hard worker. He’s super smart.”
His quick adaptability particularly impressed the passer-by: “The things I told him one day, he had already internalized the next day. I was really impressed with his ability to assimilate content. You don’t have to tell him twice. He’s already on it.”
