For quite some time, it was quiet about a trade of Aaron Rodgers. But with the draft looming, the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets have apparently resumed talks on the mega-deal.
Will Aaron Rodgers’ move from the Packers to the Jets go faster after all?
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports the two teams have “recently resumed” talks on a Rodgers deal.
Agreement on Rodgers deal this week?
While an agreement is not yet imminent, according to the report, “both sides are at least in talks – with the hope that an agreement can (finally) be reached this week.”
There was speculation some time ago that next Friday (local time) would be the crucial date.
And that’s exactly when the Jets will be allowed to pick twice in a row in the second round at spots 42 and 43.
Which picks do the Packers get?
The only thing the two teams disagree on is the first part of the multi-pick package: a second-round pick in 2023.The sticking point is compensation for 2024 and protection for the Jets in 2025 if Rodgers doesn’t play beyond 2023.
Should the two franchises come to an agreement on this point of contention by the draft, Rodgers’ wish could come true after a long wait.
