The XFL and the NFL will work together in the future. For the NFL, this means that they can try out a few things when the XFL restarts in a year’s time.
Munich – The XFL may not start for another year, but it has already landed an important collaboration. The football league, which is making a third attempt after 2000 and 2020 from February 2023, is working with the NFL. The XFL officially confirmed this on Monday.
The aim is not to exchange players directly, but to try out possible new rules, test new equipment and train future officials and coaches. In addition, there will be forward-thinking programmes for players’ physical and mental fitness and the exchange of game trends and data.
New XFL: Progressive and forward-thinking
Other opportunities for collaboration may include international football development and scouting, as well as various technologies to improve game management, the XFL release said.
Dany Garcia, co-owner and chairman of the XFL, said, “We are launching an XFL that is progressive and forward-thinking when it comes to innovation, using the latest technologies to enhance the game experience. We are open to innovative rules to improve access to the game. Sharing insights and practices between the XFL and NFL will be hugely beneficial to the game of football and support the player ecosystem as a whole.”
The league, which had its first season cut short in the spring of 2020 due to the Corona pandemic and later filed for bankruptcy, is now owned by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners. Kickoff for the next attempt as an NFL alternative in the offseason is scheduled for February 2023.
“The XFL has shown us that innovation is one of its core principles. We are confident that this relationship will support the continued development and improvement of football at all levels,” said NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent.
