No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence experienced an unsuccessful season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and has since come to appreciate winning much more
Munich/Jacksonville – Quarterback Trevor Lawrence experienced a difficult rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Only three of the 13 games of the season had been won, Head Coach Urban Meyer had to leave after 13 games. Things are supposed to get better with coach Doug Pederson, who will be in charge for the coming season.
For the playmaker, 2021 was nonetheless instructive. “It’s definitely been a long year,” Lawrence said in an interview with “The Heard.” “I think I stayed pretty positive throughout the year though. There were definitely times when it got a little rough – especially after games where you go home and think, man, we’re on a streak of five or six losses in a row. “
Lawrence talks about a “reality check “
Through his experience in the NFL, the former Clemson Tigers quarterback gained a whole new perspective on his sport: “I probably hadn’t lost more than five or six games over my entire career up to that point. So that was definitely a reality check. But trying to stay positive, trying to keep the team together: I think that’s something I’ve been doing all season. And, yeah, that was a challenge. “
Lawrence started in all 17 games for the Jaguars last season, completing 59.6 percent of his passes for 3,641 yards with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Those aren’t the numbers you want from a No. 1 pick. Still, it could have been valuable for Lawrence’s development.
With a lot of confidence going into the new season
“I think I learned a lot last year. Obviously you get a different perspective than when you’re just winning, like you have in the past. So I have a much greater appreciation for winning,” Lawrence confessed.
He continued, “And it’s also about just being able to overcome some of those challenges, face them, and then go into a new year now with a lot of confidence, a good team around us and great staff. I’m really looking forward to it. “
