Tom Brady claims to have been on the verge of a comeback in May. However, there are considerable doubts about the seriousness of the statement
Shortly before the turn of the year, a post by Tom Brady on social media caused quite a stir.
Under a photo of him skiing, the NFL legend initially wrote a few more or less irrelevant lines looking back on the year 2023.
His post only got really exciting in the last few sentences, which he wrote in brackets as a PS. It reads: “The only negative thing about 2023 was that my friends threw a retirement party for me in May of all months, when I was about to return.”
The fact that he ended this paragraph with a smiley face laughing his head off at least suggests that the now 46-year-old was not that serious about his comeback thoughts.
Nevertheless, the seven-time Super Bowl champion triggered a huge response with his post. Many users encouraged him to make a comeback, while others advised him against it
In March 2022, Brady had already announced his retirement. This time, however, he is likely to leave it at the end of his career, which he announced almost a year ago after the end of last season.
Especially as he had ruled out a return in October in his own podcast on Sirius XM.
“My parents would call, my kids would call. They would kill me,” he replied somewhat sarcastically when asked about a comeback.
He also added: “You only have permission to announce your retirement once.”
This attitude is unlikely to have changed despite the Instagram post
