Snoop Dogg: Jay-Z threatened NFL over halftime show at Super Bowl

The halftime show at the Super Bowl with hip-hop superstars like Snoop Doog, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Eminem was as excellent as it was controversial. Now Snoop Dogg told the NFL that Jay-Z had threatened to end the collaboration if the league did not let the rappers have their way.

Los Angeles – The halftime show at Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles was great, but at the same time controversial among parts of the American population.

It brought some of the biggest hip-hop stars of the 90s together on stage. Snoop Doog, Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, Eminem and Soul-Queen performed their hits while celebrating “Black Culture”.

The NFL apparently considered this a risky venture and feared people from more conservative demographics might feel provoked.

Halftime show: NFL apparently tried to tell rappers what to do

The football league is rumoured to have tried to dissuade Eminem from taking a knee and also asked Dr. Dre to leave out the “Still not loving the Police” line from his hit “Still D.R.E.”. Snoop Dogg is also said to have been given instructions regarding his clothing.

This is apparently where Jay-Z, who is a partner of the NFL with his company “Roc Nation”, intervened. If the league did not let the rappers have their way, Jay-Z is said to have threatened to end the partnership. This was reported by Snoop Dogg in a conversation with the music streaming service “Tidal”.

Snoop Dogg: “He said cut that shit “

“We love each other,” Snoop Dogg said of Jay-Z: “He went to bat for us and told the NFL, ‘Cut the shit.’ Either perform the way they want or I’m out.’ That was the most blatant gangster hit ever. With the knees and the clothes … you can’t wear your gangbang stuff? Jay-Z said to me, ‘Wear whatever the fuck you want.'”

In the end, the NFL apparently relented. The halftime show went on as planned.
