Shedeur Sanders: This NFL team wanted Deion for his son in the draft

Deion Sanders spoke extensively about his son Shedeur in the run-up to the NFL Draft. In hindsight, he probably wouldn’t have said everything he said.

It’s been about a week since the 2025 NFL Draft. The main topic of discussion was Shedeur Sanders and which team would draft the quarterback and when.

In the end, it was the Cleveland Browns who picked the 23-year-old in the fifth round at 144th overall. If it had been up to Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders, however, he would have preferred another team to draft his son.

Even back then, at a press conference in March, Sanders spoke of great anticipation on the one hand and slight nervousness on the other.

“We’ve had everything in our lives under control so far, but I can’t manipulate the draft,” said Deion Sanders: “This is the first time we don’t have control, seriously. We can’t say what we want to do. In junior high, you go to the school you want to go to, in high school you go to the school you want to go to, in college you go to the school you want to go to. Now, in the pros, they tell you where you’re going, and that’s tough.”

However, if he had been able to choose a team for his son, there would have been a clear favorite.

Deion Sanders wanted the New York Giants for his son Shedeur

“If I say that now, it’ll definitely go viral,” Sanders said, before revealing his dream team: “We’re praying right now that it’ll be the New York Giants.”

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Like 30 other teams, the Giants passed on Sanders. Not so the Cleveland Browns, whom Sanders also mentioned in the interview at the time – and not in a particularly positive light.

When asked by an interviewer about his dream team, he asked for clarification and then just smiled after his interviewer repeated Cleveland.

The fact that the Browns ended up being the team for his son Shedeur is probably just irony.
