Ex-Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is enthusiastically backing his successor Justin Herbert. The 40-year-old wants things to go the same way in L.A. as they did with the Packers.
Munich – For 16 seasons Philip Rivers was the quarterback of the Los Angeles Chargers. If the now-retired playmaker has his way, Justin Herbert should be a signal caller with the franchise for at least as long.
Speaking on the show Crain & Company, Rivers now described himself as a big fan of Herbert and said the Chargers couldn’t have done a better job in selecting their next leader.
“I root like crazy for the Chargers and especially Justin Herbert because I think it’s great that I was able to be there for 16 years and I hope he can be there for another 16 years,” the 40-year-old said.
Packers as role models
“I always thought it was cool that you could look at the Packers and say, ‘Who’s been their quarterback for the last 40 years? Favre and Rodgers.’ You don’t want it to be like the Browns, with 30 starters in the last 25 years. “
And further, “When Herbert came in, it was time for me to quit there. “
Philip Rivers was a playmaker in L.A. from 2004 to 2019, after leaving he joined the Indianapolis Colts for one more season before ending his career in January 2021.
