American football is going Olympic! The contactless sport will be included in the program at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. One NFL superstar would love to take part: Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes wants to go to the 2028 Olympics!
The star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs confirmed this at the press conference in Frankfurt am Main before the Germany game against the Miami Dolphins. “I definitely want to play there,” Mahomes replied when asked about possible Olympic participation.
However, the 28-year-old also has respect for the less physical version of the sport: “I’ve seen some of the flag football players and they’re a bit faster than me. In flag football, I also don’t have an offensive line that blocks for me.”
Flag football will be included in the program at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The non-contact sport involves “tackling” by removing the flags that the opponent wears around their waist. There is no offensive or defensive line and a “no blitzing zone”, which is intended to minimize the risk of injury.
“I’ll be 31 or 32 years old by then. If I can still move well then, I’ll go out there and maybe throw a few balls in LA. Just don’t tell Andi Reid or Brett Veach that,” Mahomes said with a wink.
NFL fans around the world are already dreaming of an Olympic team with superstars like Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski.
However, Mahomes’ participation in the Olympics is much more likely. The NFL has already announced that it wants to “encourage” its stars to take part in the games in Los Angeles.
