The Washington Football Team will unveil its new name and logo on 2 February.
Washington (SID) – The Washington football team will unveil its new name and logo on February 2. President Jason Wright made the announcement Tuesday in a lengthy letter on the tradition-rich NFL franchise’s homepage.
Washington had ditched the long-controversial name “Redskins” in July 2020 after eight decades of pressure from the company and sponsors. The neutral name “Football Team” was created for the transition period.
Wright explained that the naming “Wolves” or “RedWolves”, favoured by many fans, was difficult for licensing reasons. The team would not opt for a name that could cause legal problems.
