Ten days after their wedding, US basketball star Kelsey Plum and professional footballer Darren Waller must go their separate ways, the Las Vegas Raiders want it that way. The club has traded the tight end to the New York Giants, while Plum will continue to play for the WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces in the gambler’s metropolis.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III wasn’t the only one surprised by the move. “Darren Waller just married Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces, and the wedding gift from Josh McDaniels was to trade him to the New York Giants. McDaniels is NOT a romantic,” Griffin wrote on Twitter.
Plum responded to the post. “Probably because he wasn’t invited to the wedding, lol,” the 28-year-old tweeted. There is a history to the affair. Waller was not happy about McDaniels making the wedding plans public. The couple had initially kept them to themselves. But it is unclear whether the tensions had any influence on the trade.
For Plum, an Olympic champion in 3×3 basketball and two-time world champion (2018, 2022) in the classic game, it’s now long-distance for now. She is under contract with the Aces until the end of the 2024 season, while Waller is tied to the Giants for four years.
