Returnee Mason Rudolph wants to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers as starting quarterback. The possible arrival of Aaron Rodgers could thwart his plans, but the 29-year-old has prominent backing.
Mason Rudolph has his sights set on starting quarterback for the upcoming NFL season. The 29-year-old already has an enthusiastic supporter on his side, even if that supporter can’t do much to help him on the field.
We’re talking about US President Donald Trump, who gave a speech at the “US Steel-Nippon merger event” in Pittsburgh.
Trump also addressed Rudolph and encouraged him for the upcoming season. “I think he’s going to have a great opportunity,” he predicted, before gushing even more about the returnee from the Titans: “He’s tall, he’s good-looking, he’s got a great arm, and I feel like he’s going to be the right guy,” Trump said.

NFL: Rudolph honors Steelers legend Bleier
Rudolph, Steelers safety Miles Killebrew, and four-time Super Bowl champion Rocky Bleier then took the stage. “I’m honored to be here with a great Steeler legend like Rocky Bleier, who fought for our country in Vietnam and came back and played great football for the Black and Gold,” Rudolph said. He said it was “great to be here.”
Rudolph had already played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2018 to 2024, but then joined the Tennessee Titans. The 29-year-old will be back on the field for the Steelers next season.
Rudolph must fight for starting role
However, it is unclear whether he will be able to resume his role as starter. For weeks, there have been concrete rumors about a possible move by Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers. Some insiders see the signing as only a matter of time. As a four-time NFL MVP (2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021), the 41-year-old would most likely outrank Rudolph.
Rudolph signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract upon his return to Pittsburgh.
