NFL – Tom Brady on Philip Rivers’ comeback: “I could certainly do that.”

Philip Rivers’ comeback has been the dominant topic in the NFL in recent days. Tom Brady also spoke about it – and about his own return.

Philip Rivers’ return almost five years after his last NFL game continues to cause a stir. It remains to be seen whether the 44-year-old will actually play for the Indianapolis Colts. But the mere fact that he has been signed to the practice squad is nothing short of sensational.

And many people immediately linked Tom Brady with a possible return. After all, the “GOAT” retired not so long ago, although Brady is already 48 and thus four years older than Rivers. And yet: Would Brady theoretically believe himself capable of competing in the NFL?

The answer is hardly surprising. “Yes, I certainly could,” he said on “The Herd,” at least if he were familiar with the offense. However, the question of Brady actually only arises in theory, because as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, he is no longer allowed to actively play in the league. He initially announced his retirement in February 2022, but reversed that decision 40 days later and returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season. It wasn’t until February 2023 that he finally called it quits.

Brady believes in Rivers’ success with the Colts

Rivers is now coming back himself, and Brady comments on his own situation with a wink. “Who retires, comes back, and then quits again? Who does that? It’s ridiculous of Philip to do something like that,” he joked.

Brady has every confidence that Rivers can be successful with the Colts. The decisive factor is not physical condition, but the mental aspect. “In this game, it’s all about the quarterback’s head,” says Brady. The ratio between head and body is “four to one.”

For the seven-time Super Bowl winner, Rivers is mainly about one question: “Do you still have the physical ability to do it – to take the hits, make the throws, the drops, buy yourself a little time in the pocket? If Philip has trained for these things, then we’ll all be able to see that on Sunday afternoon in Seattle,” Brady clarifies.
