NFL to expand in Africa

In its search for the best talent, the NFL wants to expand in Africa. A series of active and former players travelling to African countries and training camps being set up are expected to lay the foundation.

Munich – “Over 100 players in the NFL were born in Africa or are the children of African parents. There’s a lot of great talent in Africa that we haven’t actively sought out as a league,” Damani Leech, one of the NFL’s top international business representatives, told “ESPN”.

The NFL wants to gain a foothold in African countries and attract potential talent to its league. For this purpose, a training camp of the NFL has been running in Africa for the first time since this week, more precisely, in Ghana.

Active NFL players with African roots such as Uchenna Nwosu or Kwity Paye are to work as ambassadors and have also travelled to Africa.

Leech: NFL’s popularity in Africa to “grow and develop “

According to Leech, more events, for example in South Africa or Nigeria, are one way in which the popularity of the NFL in Africa can “grow and develop”.

The “International Pathway Programme” also offers the best talent a chance to play in the NFL. An NFL game in Africa is, as of today, not in the planning.
