Rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit is aiming for a career in the NFL. Interest from a number of teams is said to be on the cards
Will a rugby super-talent become an NFL star? In mid-January, British rugby club Gloucester released Louis Rees-Zammit so that he could take part in the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program – despite being predicted to have a world rugby career.
Now “RugbyPass” reports that three franchises have offered the Welshman around 900,000 pounds, or more than one million dollars, to secure his signature. It is not yet known which teams are involved.
Rees-Zammit only presented himself to scouts from the league at the International Program’s Pro Day on Thursday. He was particularly disappointed with his result in the 40-yard dash, as he only completed it in 4.44 seconds, although he had already delivered a time of 4.3 seconds in training.
Nevertheless, he is said to have been praised by the scouts, who were particularly impressed by his excellent footwork. The 23-year-old had already been in talks with individual franchises before the Pro Day, with more to follow.
Rees-Zammit is one of his country’s biggest rugby talents, but is now looking to pursue a career as a running back or wide receiver in the best football league in the world. There is also the possibility of being used as a kick returner in the special teams.
