NFL Scouting Combine 2026: Fernando Mendoza makes decision

The NFL Scouting Combine is taking place this week. Fernando Mendoza has now clarified how he will proceed.

The decision has been made: Fernando Mendoza will not be throwing balls at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week. This was reported by ESPN.

The quarterback is considered the number one pick in the spring draft and a clear target for the Las Vegas Raiders, who hold the first overall pick. The franchise will therefore be able to talk to the top prospect in Indianapolis, but will not see him in action.

Instead, Mendoza will show what he can do at his college’s Pro Day on April 1. He wants to put his teammates in the spotlight there, such as wide receivers Elijah Sarratt, Omar Cooper Jr., and E.J. Williams Jr., tight ends Riley Nowakowski and Holden Staes, and running backs Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black.

The decision is not a big surprise, as Mendoza had already hinted at it on “The Pat McAfee Show” around the time of the Super Bowl.

“At the Combine, you throw with receivers you don’t know. It’s a completely different situation,” Mendoza said. “I want to make sure I give my guys the best possible stage. I want to throw with my receivers and running backs at Pro Day and be there with the guys.”

Another reason is the fact that his season was long due to winning the National Championships with the Indiana Hoosiers.

“January 19—that’s not long ago. A lot of us were just exhausted. Luckily, I’m in a position where I don’t have to throw at the Combine. But some of our guys do—Kaelon Black even played in the Senior Bowl. That was game number 17. That’s basically a full NFL season.”
