In a podcast interview, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson reveals the plans for his future career. He says the 32-year-old wants to play for more than ten more years – and then become the owner of a team.
Munich/Seattle – Just last week, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson made his comeback on the field.
His comeback was sobering in a 17-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers. But that doesn’t mean Wilson is thinking about quitting – not by a long shot, of course.
On the Pro Football Podcast, Wilson said: “I’m obsessed with football. I love the game and that’s why I want to play 20 plus years. “
Wilson: “Don’t confuse confidence with arrogance “
However, he said immediately afterwards: “On the other hand, you learn over time that you have to be patient. At the same time you have to be focused, that’s the critical part.”
“The third thing you need is confidence,” Wilson continued. “You can’t confuse that with arrogance either. Just confidence in yourself and your game that you can achieve anything if you believe in it. That’s been a deciding factor in my journey so far.”
Wilson is in his 10th NFL season, it could be the first with a negative record, the Seahawks are 3-6. So far he has been named to the Pro Bowl in seven of the 10 seasons.
Wilson’s post-career plan: become an owner
And the 32-year-old already has plans for the time after his, in the best case, longer than 20-year career: “When I’m done as a player, I definitely want to become an owner. I would love it.”
“I want to have an impact on a city and the country, I want to get people into football. I love to win and I hope I can bring that mentality to a team one day,” the quarterback, who is already co-owner of MLS club Seattle Sounders, told.
Whether it will really be enough for a 20-year career remains to be seen. As the examples of Brett Favre, Drew Brees and this year Ben Roethlisberger show, that decision is not necessarily up to you.
But it will be several years before Wilson reaches that age. With most likely top-class football.
