As in the whole world, cases of people infected with the Corona virus are also increasing in the USA and thus in the NFL. There were 79 positive tests in November, more than three times as many as in October. However, the league is not worried about this.
Munich – 79 positive PCR tests in players and coaches, that is the balance from the month of November in the NFL.
That doesn’t sound like much at first, but it is over 50 per cent more than in September and October combined. While there were 26 cases in the opening month of the NFL, there were 24 more in October. This is reported by “NBC”.
So the global trend of infections rising in the cold months is also evident in the NFL.
No need to worry – appeal to unvaccinated
But that’s no cause for concern for Dr Allen Sills, NFL medical affairs officer. “The data shows that significantly more unvaccinated players are getting infected than those with vaccines.”
This is also in line with global observations: People without the vaccination become infected proportionately significantly more often than those with full vaccination. In the NFL, about 95 per cent of the players and about 99 per cent of the coaches are vaccinated.
In general, the number of positive tests is higher than at the same time last year. This season, 225 players have been infected since the start of training camp, compared to only 155 last year.
The reason for this, however, is not a lower level of protection, but the NFL’s comparatively lax Corona rules for vaccinated players and the largely normal routine at training sessions and on game days.
Whether and to what extent the rising infection figures and the new Omikron variant will affect the NFL by mid-February is not yet foreseeable.
