The hotly anticipated duel between Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the New England Patriots also causes record ticket sales. To watch the superstar live against his ex-team, fans will also have to fork out some serious cash.
Munich – Tom Brady is a man of records. On Sunday against the New England Patriots in the Sunday Night Game, the G.O.A.T. can not only trump Drew Brees’ all-time passing record, but is already setting historic numbers.
Only once have fans in the Boston area had to shell out more for a sporting event than for the superstar’s return to his old love. According to Vivid Seats, a ticket costs an average of $1,101, ranking second in local history – only tickets for the seventh game of the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals with the Boston Bruins were more expensive on average.
Brady clearly outplays Manning and Favre
In NFL comparisons, Brady pulverizes the previous records of his predecessors. When NFL legend Peyton Manning returned to the Indianapolis Colts with the Denver Broncos in 2013, the average price was $267. Packers legend Brett Favre also managed only 212 US dollars during his guest appearance in Green Bay.
In other sports, Brady also trumps the average ticket prices when superstars return to their ex-teams. The previous record holder was NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who returned home to the Oklahoma City Thunder with the Golden State Warriors in 2017. Here, fans paid an average of 320 US dollars for their tickets.
In a total of nine Super Bowl games, Brady took the field for the Patriots. In only five of those were tickets more expensive on average than Sunday’s regular-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The same is true for every other Patriots game since Brady came to the NFL in 2000.
There are apparently still a few tickets available for Sunday’s historic game. At Vivid Seats, the cheapest seats are currently priced at a hefty $239. If someone is looking for better seats, tickets up to 18,000 US dollars are also still available.
