The divisional round of the NFL playoffs is just around the corner. Editor Mattis Oberbach gives his predictions.
The Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs is over, and the Divisional Round is just around the corner.
It should not go uncommented that I actually predicted five of the six Wild Card games correctly. Yes, the records only show a 4-of-6 – and thus these records are more reliable than the LA Chargers receivers.
But since they were only on the field in battery-saving mode and would have been unable to catch a cold, the Chargers were eliminated and my 5-of-6 record was ruined. I will never forgive the less important team from LA for that.
What does the next round of the playoffs have to offer? My picks for the Divisional Round:
Texans at Chiefs
We’ll read the intro paragraph again at this point and then consider whether the beneficiaries of this receiver blackout against Patrick Mahomes will be able to survive. Um… no. The Chiefs win the game by at least 17 points.
Commanders at Lions
The only thing colder than the weather outside is the blood in Jayden Daniels’ veins. The man is unflappable and still finds it fun to let the air out of the audience in a strange house.
With the longest active winning streak behind him, he will trim the Lions’ claws at the weekend. Jared Goff ends his season with four turnovers and the Lions will never play football as well in this decade as they have in the past two years.
Rams at Eagles
As the biggest mystery of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the Eagles have once again made the playoffs with a great record, yet are regularly booed by their fans. Aspiration and reality are as far apart as the cities of Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
Here’s how it goes down this Sunday: They start slowly again, with three three-and-outs before the two-minute warning. Then, before the break, Barkley scores over 67 yards and after that the Rams don’t get a single first down the rest of the game.
The Eagles win by double digits, but the fans are just as excited for the Conference Championship Game as they are to vigorously demand the firing of head coach Nick Sirianni.
Ravens at Bills
It’s too bad for the NFL that the Super Bowl, Easter and Christmas fall on the same weekend and that the Divisional Round is already scheduled. Lamar Jackson will soon collect his third MVP title and for this reason alone, we should grant Josh Allen this victory here.
The “eternal runner-up” of the modern AFC will once again be eliminated by the Bills in Kansas City next week – so let’s at least give him the triumph in front of his home crowd in this hottest of all possible playoff games.
