NFL: Players’ union NFLPA pushes for game postponements

After numerous Corona outbursts, the players’ union NFLPA sees a cancellation of the Cleveland Browns game as necessary. Parts of the game are also calling for a complete suspension.

Washington/Munich – If the NFL has its way, all games should take place. Always everything according to plan. No deviations.

After various Corona outbreaks, however, this plan could now be shaken. A total of 20 Cleveland Browns players are currently on the covid list – Saturday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders is – if at all – at the limit.

While the league is making no move to reschedule the game despite the many absences, the players union NFLPA is now pushing for just that.

NFLPA sees distortion of competition

According to the union, the safety of the players is paramount. Here, the NFLPA refers to the effects of the pandemic, but also to the fact that substitute players are thrown into the game at short notice and unprepared.

A possible distortion of competition is also criticised. Example: The Browns will most likely be without their two quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum in the fight for the playoffs.

One part of the union even seems to be calling for a complete stoppage of play. The whole schedule would thus be pushed back a week, the bye week between the Conference Championship Games and the Super Bowl could give way to this.

However, it is very unlikely that the NFL will agree to this.
